Unequally Yoked

I set my love on fire for you . . .

Let it burn long enough for every dark space in your heart to be consumed with the heaviest of good intentions.

Let the transgressions of a lover I knew not before me melt off my conscience with visions of a new slate surfacing.

Prayed to the Goddess of love and kissed the ground she walked on for creating such a bond between souls intertwining.

Spoke my peace . . . and counted to three.

Clicked my heels professing wholeheartedly, there’s no place like home.

But when I opened my eyes,

And the smoke faded away into the distance

. . . So did you

Because a candle has no business being next to a forest fire.
